The role of psychology in major crises 2020

The Corona crisis is a collective trauma that struck the entire world, which had and still has many repercussions and impacts on various professional and humanitarian sectors. As for Lebanon, the Coronavirus coincided with other crises and the Beirut blast in the fourth of august was one of the hardest on all the Lebanese society.
Nafsaniyoun Center was obliged to respond to the psychological problems and pressures that have arisen from these crises, with the aim of monitoring and analyzing the psychological reality in addition to coming up with recommendations that would be a map for the next psychological work of all psychologists, through a scientific national conference entitled: "The role of psychology in major crises ".

The conference included eleven interventions by experts and professors specializing in psychology, which presented the most important psychological research and studies that touch on current society issues and dealt with topics including "the frequency of disasters and crises in Lebanon and their reflection on the psyche of the exhausted Lebanese." With psychotherapist and president of the Lebanese University of Psychology Ms. Shahnaz Baroudi, “Appropriate psychological treatments in crises” with psychoanalyst and university professor Elaine Hosseini Assaf in addition to “The effectiveness of EMDR treatment in collective trauma,” an intervention made by Professor Youssef Akouri, Professor and Head of the Department of Science Self in the Lebanese University.

Professor Mostafa Hijazi had a valuable presentation on "The Role of Psychologists in the Great National Crises", followed by "A Philosophical Reading of the Lebanese ego" with Dr. Mushir Aoun, Professor of Philosophy at the Lebanese University.
As for Professor Youssef Kafrouni, former dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, he addressed in his intervention "the impact of the absence of the national culture of belonging on the social reality in Lebanon."
Dr. Christina Riachi had an intervention on “The Dangers of a Therapeutic Psychological Intervention at this Stage of Trauma” followed by the topic “The reality of trauma on children and the family” with Dr. Antoine El Chartouni, professor of psychology at the Lebanese University, and finally an in-depth discussion and “a psycho-social analysis of the group dynamic among the Lebanese In a Time of Trauma "with Dr. Marilyn Al-Haddad, a professor at the Faculty of Psychology at the Lebanese University and the Faculty of Health at the Jesuit University.
The intervention of the great thinker Adonis and the head of the research department at the University of Diderot in France, psychoanalyst Houria Abdel Wahid was also an added value and an enrichment for the conference.
Nafsaniyoun Center hopes that this conference has achieved the desired goal through it, believing in the role of psychology in the advancement of individuals and groups.
